ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Human Resources are the hub of any business organization. This department handles everything from recruiting, payroll, benefits, employee development, training, administration and knowledge of state and federal laws. Such an important and versatile position requires a solid foundation. Working in HR today means you will be bombarded with legal questions and governmental regulations on a daily basis. With so much responsibility, you can’t afford to feel unprepared.

REQUIRED DISCLOSURE

Except as provided in rule 4.30 of the Admissions Rules (legal education in a foreign state or country), completion of a professional law degree program at this law school other than for the Juris Doctor degree does not qualify a student to take the California Bar Examination or satisfy the requirements for admission to practice law in California. It may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or to satisfy requirements for admission to the practice of law in any other jurisdiction. A student intending to seek admission to practice law should contact the admitting authority in the jurisdictions where the student intends to qualify to sit for the bar examination or to be admitted to practice for information regarding their legal education requirements.

Financial Aid

Master of Legal Studies students who demonstrate a deep understanding of the advantages that an MLS can provide in their respective fields are automatically considered for scholarships ranging from 20%-50% of tuition (up to $4,500-$11,250) over the course of the entire degree program. Scholarships are renewable as long as specific academic criteria are met each semester.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

MLS applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). The GRE is not required for admission. In addition to the application, applicants must provide official transcripts from the colleges/universities at which they have earned degrees and two letters of recommendation.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

In addition to satisfying the admission requirements, you must have your foreign transcripts evaluated by an agency approved by the California State Bar to determine whether or not you meet the pre-legal education requirements. A list of the approved agencies and instructions for evaluation requests can be found on the California State Bar’s website. You must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language exam (TOEFL) if the first language of your country of origin is not English. TOEFL requirement may be waived if you are able to show proficiency in the English language.
